The launch is everything. We’ve achieved a lot in a short time. We are out there. We have people’s trust. Our clientele is very good. We’ve had media personalities, politicians, ministers, members of the corporate world. And I wondered what we could do to officially launch ourselves into the world and be known even beyond Uganda. A launch says “I am here. We are here”. We would not light a candle and cover it with a basket to hide its light. We would have it shine for all to see.
The idea for the launch came up during production when we were trying to improve our denim with an African twist by diversifying our sources of input so we don’t get over reliant on our inhouse staff for ideas. So, we consulted with other professionals in the field. We were at the time planning on showcasing our wares at “Nyegenyege”. Kevin, a nephew, put me in contact with a person from Dynasty who could help us modify, brand and push the denim jacket. It came up however that the same person on loan from Dynasty also had a production team on retainer and what was only an idea of a launch became a solid objective.
The objectives, hopes and expectations of the launch.
We of course believe it’ll be a success. We plan on showcasing some of our products which is why our workshop is currently working non stop churning out goodies for our clientele. There will be a red carpet, models exhibiting our works, and there will also be a popup shop featuring some of our best work in the various categories, men’s, women’s, children’s. Our plan is for our customers to leave with very light wallets, looking very sleek and trendy in our latest garb and feeling very happy. You have a Visa card, we will swipe it, you have mobile money, we’ll punch in codes and make you very beautiful with a Guiza branded product. And while we try to lighten your wallet as you enjoy our models on the runway, we plan on providing entertainment.
The main event of the night will be the runway show. Our models will be kitted out in a lot of material ranging over many niches. We’ve got glamour, business wear, casual wear, kaftan wear, suits. We believe our customers are not emotionally prepared for the awesomeness we are about to unless upon their heads. We have heavily phased out our imported products and our runway will only contain in house products coming off our line of production.
A major goal is of course to make money because I once heard someone say “Fashion doesn’t pay the bills” and I’d like to prove them wrong. But our biggest goal, the cornerstone of my being, is to put out beauty in the world. To get something from my head, from my heart and through hard work, leave it on someone’s body and leave them feeling like the most beautiful person in the room.
